Woman Portrait Pencil Drawing Dan Atkinson 1956 Maxwell Galleries California Art Description and Item Information Up for sale is this vintage pencil drawing on illustration board by the American artist, Dan Atkinson. Please excuse any glare in the photos. The drawing depicts the back side of a woman, who appears to be beginning to braid her long hair. The drawing is matted but not framed. The back of the illustration board is affixed to the back of the mat board with tape, as shown. The sight area of the drawing within the mat borders measures approximately 16 1/2 inches by 11 3/4 inches. The exterior mat board measurements are about 18 15/16 inches by 14 1/4 inches. This item weighs approximately 12.2 ounces, unpacked. This would be a wonderful addition to a collection of vintage fine art. Identification The name of the artist and the date (Dan Atkinson, 1956) are at the upper right. There is scant information available about this obviously talented artist, but he was American and he was known to paint portraits, figurative art, and subjects related to Mardi Gras and the American South. On the back side of the illustration board, there is a label from the well-regarded Maxwell Galleries in San Francisco, as shown. Condition This matted but unframed drawing looks very good overall, with minor yellowing, as shown. I have not examined the illustration board edges, since they are covered by the mat board. The top edge of the mat board has minor discoloration, and there is a tiny brown dot on the mat board. There are a few tiny dark dots on the front of the mat board and on the illustration board. The back side is as shown. Please review the description and photos, and ask any necessary questions prior to bidding or buying.
